Does the idea of going to the dentist fill you with fear and send chills down your spine? If the answer is yes, then you are not alone. Thousands of Americans feel an overbearing sense of dread when they make a dental appointment. The thought of having strange tools clean their teeth and gums is enough to cause an incredible amount of anxiety and stress. There is a solution for the anxiety and a way to relieve the stress. Cranbrook Dental Care, located in Bloomfield Hills, MI, offers methods of sedation, which provides a comfortable experience for those who usually experience fright.

A Relaxing Experience

Sedation dentistry is the best way to overcome any anxiety experienced during a dental appointment. Dr. Banda, a masterful dentist with years of experience, and his phenomenal team of seasoned experts, want to ensure that every patient, both new and returning, has a comfortable experience. We understand that our tools may seem alien and the procedures can induce stress, but our sedation techniques can remove the fear from the equation. We will simply give you a treatment to either relax your mind and body. In some cases, our sedation can cause patients to sleep, so they wake after the procedure is over. It makes the whole process very straightforward.

Types of Sedation

We offer two types of sedation. Both will alleviate anxiety, but we can apply one or the other, depending on a patient’s preferences. Our sedation types include the following:

  • Oral Conscious Sedation: Our doctors can prescribe an anxiolytic, or anti-anxiety, medication. One to two hours before your dental appointment, you will take the pill, so its effects start to take hold before you enter our office. During the procedure, we will also apply nitrous oxide, increasing the effect of the medication. We suggest having someone drive you to and from the appointment if you undergo oral conscious sedation.
  • IV Sedation: While this type is usually used for oral surgeries or longer procedures, this type of sedation can alleviate more severe cases of stress and anxiety. We will apply medication via an IV drip, which will cause a state of relaxation, or sleep, within minutes. Again, we suggest having a ride prepared for your appointment.

Are you missing a tooth or a series of teeth? Do you want to get your beautiful, shining smile back? Getting dental implants can not only solve these potential issues, they can help self-confidence, display a youthful look, and restore self-image. It sounds great, right? Those who live in the Bloomfield Hills, MI area should and want this procedure should request an appointment with Dr. Banda, the best and most sought-after dentist in the region.

What are the Long-Term Effects of a Missing Tooth?

Your jawbone and the surrounding areas around your teeth require stimulation. Throughout the day, your teeth make thousands of contacts with each other, food (when you chew), etc. These contacts stimulate the bone. Without the stimulation from all teeth in the mouth, the jawbone will begin to rapidly decline in mass, as density, height, and width will diminish.

How Does Dr. Banda Insert a Dental Implant?

78188806The dental implant procedure is very simple. During the first visit, Dr. Banda will perform a full oral examination, checking on your oral health, while planning the implant. The next time you come into our wonderful office, Dr. Banda and his team will surgically position small posts into the jawbone. Your jawbone will naturally accept the posts, as they are biocompatible, and naturally fuse with them. When the healing process is complete, replacement teeth are cemented to the posts, filling the gaps and giving you a full set of teeth.

What Is Oral Soft Tissue Surgery?

Sometimes, mouth surgery is required to restore gum tissues around teeth or prepare gum tissues for dental implants. Oral soft tissue surgery may be for the augmentation, reduction, or reshaping of your gums. Common soft tissue surgeries include:

  • Frenectomy: Frena are small folds of tissue under the tongue, inside the upper lip, inside the lower lip, or connecting the cheeks and gums. A Frenectomy may be performed to loosen the frenum’s connection and extend the range of motion in the area.
  • Soft tissue grafts: Soft tissue gum grafts are used to increase gum tissue in certain areas. Gum tissue grafting can be used to:

o   Prevent further gum recession

o   Cover exposed tooth roots

o   Stop gum sensitivity

o   Improve gum appearance

o   Treat advanced periodontitis

  • Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty: A gingivectomy surgically removes diseased or excess gum tissue caused by advanced gum disease (periodontitis). Gingivoplasty is the surgical reshaping of the gum tissue, and is often performed in combination with a gingivectomy.
  • Crown Lengthening: If a tooth has been severely weakened by decay, is cracked, broken, or worn down, Dr. Banda may perform a crown lengthening procedure to ensure that enough of the tooth’s structure is available to securely hold a dental crown in place.

Is Oral Soft Tissue Surgery Painful?

Dr. Banda is trained and experienced in all aspects of anesthesia and sedation administration. Every consideration will be made to ensure that your oral soft tissue surgery is as comfortable, relaxed, and pain free as possible. Usually, patients describe their oral surgery experience as surprisingly pleasant. After surgery, you may be prescribed pain medication to make you as comfortable as possible at home.

Dental Care 101: Do You Have Wisdom Tooth Problems?

January 17, 2015

What’s The Deal with Wisdom Teeth? Your wisdom teeth, so named because they are the third and final set of molars (adult teeth) that erupt in the late teens or early twenties, can sometimes malfunction, causing extreme pain and discomfort. When they grown in healthy and properly aligned they can be a valuable asset to your mouth, however, if they grown incorrectly or misaligned, they may require extraction. Wisdom tooth misalignment can affect the positioning of your other teeth and lead to more complicated dental problems. Not everyone will have problems with their wisdom teeth, but if you do, you can make an appointment with Dr. Banda, the Implant Dentist, at Cranbrook Dental Care today. Dr. Banda can safely, effectively, and comfortably remove your wisdom teeth. Cranbrook Dental Care proudly serves families daily throughout metro Detroit, Bloomfield Hills, Royal Oak, Clarkston, Troy, and Birmingham, MI.

Why You May Need Wisdom Tooth Extraction Surgery

Your wisdom teeth may grow in horizontally, angled toward or away from the second molars, or angled inward or outward. These misalignments can potentially damage your surrounding healthy teeth, your jawbone, and your nerves. Wisdom teeth can also grow in impacted. With impaction, wisdom teeth are stuck, wholly or partially, within the gum tissue or jawbone. Partial eruption may encourage bacterial infection, resulting in pain, swelling, jaw stiffness, and other illness. Partially erupted wisdom teeth also promote tooth decay and gum disease.

Does Wisdom Tooth Extraction Hurt?

Dr. Banda is an expert dental surgeon. As such, he is able to ensure that you will be completely comfortable and sedated during your wisdom tooth extraction. The relative ease of your particular extraction procedure will depend on the position and development of your wisdom teeth.  Wisdom teeth that have fully erupted through the gum-line can be extracted as easily as any other tooth. However, wisdom teeth that are still underneath the gum-line or embedded in the jawbone will require an incision before removal. This may also require the tooth to be extracted in small sections rather than one piece.

Bloomfield Hills Wisdom Tooth Extraction Appointments

Sometimes Dr. Banda may recommend that your wisdom teeth be extracted before these problems develop. This should be done to avoid more painful or invasive extractions down the road. Removal is easier in teens and young adults, than older adults. Make your wisdom tooth extraction appointment with an experienced and trusted oral surgeon. Dr. Banda, the Implant Dentist, will ensure that your treatment is relaxed and pain free. Cranbrook Dental Care proudly restores smiles daily throughout Bloomfield Hills, MI, Royal Oak, Clarkston, Troy, Birmingham, and nearby Detroit communities.

Do You Need Tooth Removal Surgery?

December 17, 2014

512961243If you ask someone why they fear the dentist, a common answer may be that they have a fear of tooth removal. “What if the dentist says that I need a tooth removed?” Though tooth removal is one of the more invasive dental procedures, it can be necessary in some cases to save your surrounding healthy teeth and prevent the spread of infection in your mouth. Tooth removal today, is a quick and efficient procedure.  A clear sign that you need a tooth removed is chronic pain or discomfort somewhere in your mouth, especially from a tooth that was previously treated with root canal surgery. Make an appointment with Dr. Banda, the Implant Dentist, at Cranbrook Dental Care today. Dr. Banda will perform the tooth removal procedure you need with your care and comfort in mind. Cranbrook Dental Care proudly restores smiles throughout Bloomfield Hills, Royal Oak, Clarkston, Troy, and Birmingham, MI.

Why You Made Need Tooth Removal Surgery

  • Decay: Sometimes cavities can reduce and corrupt the surface of your tooth to such a degree, that the pain, discomfort, and sensitivity experienced, requires the tooth to be removed.
  • Crowding: Your tooth may need to be pulled to make room for orthodontic treatment, or to make room for a tooth that doesn’t have enough room to erupt (break through the gum line).
  • Infection: Sometimes tooth decay can extend to the pulp at the center of your tooth. The nerves and blood vessels that make up the pulp can become infected with harmful bacteria. Often this can be corrected with root canal therapy, however if the infection is severe enough, extraction may be needed to prevent the spread of infection to your healthy teeth.
  • Gum Disease: If an infection is located in the bone and gum tissue that supports your teeth, your teeth may loosen and need to be extracted before they fall out.
  • Wisdom Teeth: About 12% of Americans have wisdom teeth that will eventually become infected if they are not removed.
