Your jawbone and the surrounding areas around your teeth require stimulation. Throughout the day, your teeth make thousands of contacts with each other, food (when you chew), etc. These contacts stimulate the bone. Without the stimulation from all teeth in the mouth, the jawbone will begin to rapidly decline in mass, as density, height, and width will diminish.
How Does Dr. Banda Insert a Dental Implant?
The dental implant procedure is very simple. During the first visit, Dr. Banda will perform a full oral examination, checking on your oral health, while planning the implant. The next time you come into our wonderful office, Dr. Banda and his team will surgically position small posts into the jawbone. What Is Oral Soft Tissue Surgery?
Sometimes, mouth surgery is required to restore gum tissues around teeth or prepare gum tissues for dental implants. Oral soft tissue surgery may be for the augmentation, reduction, or reshaping of your gums. Common soft tissue surgeries include:
- Frenectomy: Frena are small folds of tissue under the tongue, inside the upper lip, inside the lower lip, or connecting the cheeks and gums. A Frenectomy may be performed to loosen the frenum’s connection and extend the range of motion in the area.
- Soft tissue grafts: Soft tissue gum grafts are used to increase gum tissue in certain areas. Gum tissue grafting can be used to:
o Prevent further gum recession
o Cover exposed tooth roots
o Stop gum sensitivity
o Improve gum appearance
o Treat advanced periodontitis
- Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty: A gingivectomy surgically removes diseased or excess gum tissue caused by advanced gum disease (periodontitis). Gingivoplasty is the surgical reshaping of the gum tissue, and is often performed in combination with a gingivectomy.
- Crown Lengthening: If a tooth has been severely weakened by decay, is cracked, broken, or worn down, Dr. Banda may perform a crown lengthening procedure to ensure that enough of the tooth’s structure is available to securely hold a dental crown in place.
Is Oral Soft Tissue Surgery Painful?
Dr. Banda is trained and experienced in all aspects of anesthesia and sedation administration. Every consideration will be made to ensure that your oral soft tissue surgery is as comfortable, relaxed, and pain free as possible. Why You Made Need Tooth Removal Surgery
- Decay: Sometimes cavities can reduce and corrupt the surface of your tooth to such a degree, that the pain, discomfort, and sensitivity experienced, requires the tooth to be removed.
- Crowding: Your tooth may need to be pulled to make room for orthodontic treatment, or to make room for a tooth that doesn’t have enough room to erupt (break through the gum line).
- Infection: Sometimes tooth decay can extend to the pulp at the center of your tooth. The nerves and blood vessels that make up the pulp can become infected with harmful bacteria. Often this can be corrected with root canal therapy, however if the infection is severe enough, extraction may be needed to prevent the spread of infection to your healthy teeth.
- Gum Disease: If an infection is located in the bone and gum tissue that supports your teeth, your teeth may loosen and need to be extracted before they fall out.
- Wisdom Teeth: About 12% of Americans have wisdom teeth that will eventually become infected if they are not removed.

Medications most commonly used are Fentanyl (opiate), Versed (benzodiazepine), Ketamine, and Diprivan.
- Oral Conscious Sedation– Oral sedation works as a sedative to make you feel sleepy and as an anti-anxiety medication to relieve anxiety. Do You Need a Sinus Lift?
October 17, 2014
A sinus lift, sometimes called a sinus augmentation, is an oral surgery during which bone is added to the upper jaw between the molars and pre-molars. This type of surgery has become common practice before dental implant procedures. If there is insufficient bone height in the upper jaw, or if there is not enough room between the sinuses and the jaw for the implants to be properly placed, sinus lift surgery may be needed. You made need a sinus lift if you have reabsorbed bone due to tooth loss, bone loss due to gum disease, or a maxillary sinus that’s too close to the upper jaw for implants to be placed. The shape and the size of the sinuses vary from person to person and can get larger as you age. For your dental implant consultation, make an appointment with Dr. Banda at Cranbrook Dental Care today. Cranbrook Dental Care proudly serves patients throughout Bloomfield Hills, Royal Oak, Clarkston, Troy, and Birmingham, MI.
Sinus Lift Procedure
For the sinus lift, the oral surgeon first cuts into the gum tissue above the back teeth. This tissue is then raised, exposing the jaw bone. A small, oval window is cut into the bone. The membrane lining the sinus on the other side of the window that separates your sinus from your jaw is gently pushed up and away from your jawbone. Bone-graft material is then packed into this empty space. Usually several millimeters of bone from your own body, from a cadaver or from a cow bone is added. Once the bone is in place, the tissue is stitched back together. The dental implants will be placed four to nine months later, allowing time for the grafted bone material to mesh with your jaw bone. The healing time depends on the amount of bone used.

The Benefits to Dental Implants
September 17, 2014
The wonderful thing about dental implants is that they are able to give you the smile you have always wanted. Dr. Banda prides himself in being able to transform the smiles and lives of his patients with dental implants. Though there are very obvious benefits to dental implants, there are more benefits than meets the eye!
One of the great benefits about dental implants is that they are able to offer you better oral health. When you have a smile that is not full, it puts you more at risk for gum disease, a misaligned bite, bone loss, tooth loss, TMJ, and other complications. Also, when you have teeth missing from your smile, it could cause the other teeth in your mouth to shift in order to make up for the extra space. This shift is due to the missing tooth root, as the roots are used to anchor our teeth in place. When that is missing, it puts other teeth in your smile at risk for deterioration.
Also, unlike dentures and partials, dental implants are a permanent option to replacing your teeth. There is no fear of slippage or dealing with adhesives or clasps, allowing you to fully enjoy your new smile with confidence. Dental implants are able to improve your facial aesthetic, being able to support your cheeks and lips, making you look more youthful. There are many benefits to dental implants, and if you have teeth missing from your smile, we invite you to discover the benefits for yourself. Contact our office to schedule a consultation with Dr. Banda to find out how dental implants are able to help restore your self-confidence and overall wellbeing.
